Topic:  Navigating Procurement Challenges in Service Contracts: Strategies for Success

Public and private sector organizations increasingly rely on service contracts to deliver essential operations, specialized expertise, and customer-facing functions.  Yet procuring services poses unique challenges distinct from purchasing goods-ranging from defining precise performance requirements and evaluating intangible service quality to navigating complex regulatory compliance and risk allocation.

Participants will explore:
1. Key differences between goods and services in procurement
2. Strategies for drafting clear, measurable service specifications and performance metrics
3. Common pitfalls in scoping, evaluation criteria and contract terms
4. Risk assessment and mitigation approaches in service contracts

Speaker: Dr. Kristen Hurtado,  Center for Procurement Excellence.
Kristen is an Assistant Research Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment.  She completed her doctorate in construction management in2018 at Arizona State University.  Her research interests include organizational transformation, project planning and risk management, construction education and training, construction industry analytics, project and facility management.  Over the past decade+, Kristen has assisted Public and Private Organizations in streamlining their procurement innovation and construction processes and training.  She has managed over 200 projects ($1 Billion+) with the US Government, State Agencies, Universities, and Utilities.  She's taught classes on Construction Delivery RFP Development, and specialized capital projects software programs.
